Smith & Nephew has announced that its TRUCLEAR 5.0 hysteroscopic morcellator system is now available to surgeons across the US.
The instrument has an outer diameter of just 0.5mm, enabling surgeons to safely remove intrauterine polyps and uterine fibroids, while its size means that it can be used away from traditional operating rooms and utilised in offices for clinical jobs.
Mira Sahney, general manager of Gynecology for Smith & Nephew, said: "At 20 per cent smaller than other hysteroscopes, TRUCLEAR 5.0 System has the potential to reduce gynecology healthcare costs across the US by allowing procedures to be performed in an office setting."
Ms Sahney also described the technology as "game-changing".
Smith & Nephew could also be set to reveal further game-changing news after it acquired Kalypto Medical.
The move will help the company to continue its work in the field of negative pressure wound therapy and develop innovative products for the market.
