Clinical research jobs provider Merck has revealed the results of a study into the efficacy of vorapaxar, which is the firm's investigational anti-thrombotic medicine designed for patients with a prior history of cardiovascular events or disease.
It published results from the Thrombin-Receptor Antagonist in Secondary Prevention of Atherothrombotic Ischemic Events TIMI 50 research and they showed it can significantly reduce the risk of cardiovascular events.
Dr David Morrow, senior investigator at the TIMI study group and director of the Levine Cardiac Intensive Care Unit, Brigham and Women's Hospital, stated the trial's results demonstrated for the first time that "inhibition of another platelet pathway in addition to standard antiplatelet therapy reduced the risk of recurrent cardiovascular events in long-term secondary prevention".
Earlier in the month, Merck revealed it was to team up with world-renowned chemist and biotechnology entrepreneur Peter Schultz in order to launch the California Institute for Biomedical Research.
