Cancer Research UK is making an investment in the clinical jobs sector by providing a series of grants to promising British researchers.
More than £12 million is being provided to ten exceptional researchers who are expected to become eminent cancer scientists, allowing them to develop their careers and make new discoveries.
This includes Career Establishment Awards for two up-and-coming university lecturers and Senior Cancer Research Fellowship for four leading scientists, while another four junior researchers will receive Career Development Fellowships.
Preliminary applications are now being accepted by the research charity for up to ten more awards, with the deadline approaching on July 28th 2011.
Dr David Scott, Cancer Research UK's director of science funding, said: "Having ten awards available sends out the important message that Cancer Research UK is serious about supporting new scientists at the start of their careers."
Last month, a report showed that spending on cancer studies among partners of the National Cancer Research Institute (NCRI) has almost doubled in the last decade.
